The Space Launch System has rolled back to the VAB at the Kennedy Space Center and declared “mission accomplished”.
Artemis 1 is expected to be launched no earlier than August 2022.
NASA has released dates for 6 remaining flight windows for 2022.
If the Artemis 1 flight goes according to plan, NASA intends for the next SLS/Orion mission — Artemis 2 — to carry a crew of around on a loop around the far side of the moon and back to Earth in 2024, marking the first astronaut voyage to the moon since 1972.
Meanwhile, the Super Heavy booster (B7) has rolled to the pad for tests at Boca Chica, TX.
Now, the giant Starship spacecraft (S24), the passenger vehicle for SpaceX’s deep-space transportation system, has rolled out to the pad to join the primary booster.
Elon Musk has said SpaceX will have Starship ‘ready to fly’ in July. But, that looks optimistic.
SpaceX eventually plans to use this system to take humans and cargo to the Moon for NASA, then aim for Mars and other solar system destinations.
